As many of you know, I have left IBM and am now a product manager at Endeca. I’m definitely sad to leave Ben, Wing, Lee, Elias, Rouben, Matt, Steve, Sean, Alyssa, Konrad, Anne, Chet, Alister, Paul, Louis, Aaron, and Frank. AdTech really was a great place to work, and I learned a ton from the people there. It was especially tough to go given that the team has recently open-sourced the Semantic Layered Research Platform which we had been working on for years, and I believe is poised for great things.
Endeca is a young company that does “information access,” which is different and better than traditional search (I realize that’s pretty vague, but I’ll a more tangible description when I get a chance). I was incredibly impressed by their demos when I was interviewing, and, having seen much more, and even more so. They have assembled a diverse team of really talented people and have a product that really is revolutionary in a lot of ways. IBM claims to have saved $500 MILLION dollars in one year using a single Endeca application (IBM’s metric, not Endeca’s). The most exciting part is that the best is yet to come, and that our biggest challenge now is to hire enough good people to keep pace with our financial growth.
I have a lot more to say, but I’ll do so in pieces. For now I’ll just say that I love my new job, I’m every bit as busy as I imagined, and I hope to keep in touch with all my friends from AdTech.
Happy holidays!

I hope you got stock options! Rumor has it that they’re looking at going public in 2007.
